Carlton have picked up GWS Giants midfielder Lachie Whitfield during the AFL trade period, with the deal confirmed on 13 October 2026. Five picks moved between the two clubs in the transaction.

Whitfield has been a long-serving Giant over his career and is regarded as one of the competition's more reliable midfielders. He brings plenty of experience to a Carlton midfield that has been pushing for more in recent seasons.

His move to Carlton stands out as one of the more significant trades of the 2026 period. The Giants will receive the five picks as compensation for losing a player who gave them many years at the highest level.

For Carlton, landing a midfielder of Whitfield's calibre is a strong addition heading into the upcoming season. The deal shows Carlton means business as they push up the ladder in 2027.
